School of Biological Science: Undergraduate Program Surveys

Educational Effectiveness Indicator Survey & Program Learning Outcomes Document Collection

PURPOSE: UCI is required to submit a number of regular reports to our institutional accreditor, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Among these reports is the Inventory of Educational Effectiveness Indicators (IEEI), which addresses details regarding each and every academic program’s compliance with accreditation standards and criteria. It is time to produce the IEEI again. In addition, UCI is required to have well-developed program learning outcomes (PLOs) for every academic program, and to have the relevant PLOs posted on each program’s website.

School of Biological Sciences Undergraduate Degree Programs

  • PART ONE: Educational Effectiveness Indicator Survey

INSTRUCTIONS, PART ONE : For each of your unit’s degree programs, please respond to the six (6) IEEI questions in Part One on each page. In an effort to save you time, instead of sending you a blank survey, we are sharing with you an Excel file that includes the responses your unit submitted in 2017 and asking you to review and either confirm continued accuracy or update the information on a program by program basis. If the data from 2017 is no longer accurate or you are answering for a new degree program, please select "No" and select appropriate responses.

When you have completed Part One for each program, please complete Part Two, which focuses on program learning outcomes. If you have questions about this process, please contact Brittany Aguirre at (Blaguir1@uci.edu)

  • 2. If program learning outcomes have been developed for this program, where have they been published?

  • 3. Other than GPA, what data/evidence are used to determine that graduates have achieved stated program learning outcomes?

  • 4. Who interprets the evidence/data from the assessment measures listed?

  • 5. How are the findings used?

  • 6. What is the process for analyzing results of the assessment data and developing action items?

PART TWO: Program Learning Outcomes Document Collection

INSTRUCTIONS, PART TWO (PLOs):  The Office of Academic Planning and Institutional Research has obtained from the Graduate Division and the Division of Undergraduate Education the program learning outcomes (PLOs) on file for programs within your school, if those PLOs were available. Where PLOs are on file, they are attached. Please email Brittany Aguirre at Blaguir1@uci.edu to either confirm continued accuracy, submit PLOs that are not currently on file or PLOs for a new degree program. The following are the examples of excellent Program Learning Outcomes: Example 1, Example 2.
